Counting Blessings: National Library Week - Local Leaders READ

Today's Blessing:  A Great Turnout

The library's main event today was "Local Leaders Storytelling".  I was the committee member over this event so I had personally invited the Mayor to come read stories at the library along with the other city council members and the library board members.  The Mayor happily accepted my invitation.  Two city council members did also along with three library board members...hence the six "READ" posters I designed a couple of weeks ago.

I have to admit, I was a little worried about the whole thing.  What if no kids showed up to hear them read stories?  Especially when it was the Mayor's turn!  He blocked out time from his busy schedule especially for us and what if no one showed up?!  Well, my worrying was a waste (which most worrying is!) because we had a great turnout for all the sessions!  The first one was a little small but the longer our library board chair sat and read the more kids showed up.  During one session there were 22 kids plus their parents!  The whole event turned out awesome!  One family stayed there the entire time from 3-6 pm...those poor kids were full of milk and cookies by the time 6:00 pm rolled around!  (We served milk and cookies at the end of each story session.)

All the leaders did a great job!  I got to sit and listen to them all!  While the Mayor was reading "The Cat in the Hat", one of the little boys piped up and said right in the middle of the story, "You're a great storyteller."  I'm pretty sure that made the Mayor smile! :)
